Level 2
This course is suitable for someone who is relatively new to working within the Health and Social care sector. Its flexibility suits all fields of health and social care, for example; working with people with a disability, people with dementia or children and young people.
Who is this Qualification for?
This qualification is aimed post-16 learners in Wales working, or seeking to work, in the health and social care sectors. This qualification is accessible to all who wish to undertake it, with any barriers which may restrict access and/or progression being identified and supported to ensure equality of opportunity.

How the qualification is structured
There are several routes available to learners within the qualification. Once a route is selected, to achieve this qualification, learners must successfully complete and pass all relevant mandatory units.
The routes and mandatory units are as follows:

001 – Principles and Values of Health and Social care (adults)
003 – Health and Well-being (Adults)
005 – Professional practice as a health and social care worker
006 – Safeguarding individuals
007 – Health and Safety in health and social care.
Level 2 Health and Social Care: Core (Children and Young People)
002 – Principles and values of health and social care (children and young people)
004 – Health and well-being (children and young people)
005 – Professional practice as a health and social care worker
006 – Safeguarding Individuals
007 – Health and safety in Health and Social care
Level 2 Health and Social Care: Core (Adults and Children and Young People)
001 – Principles and Values of Health and Social care (adults)
002 – Principles and values of health and social care (children and young people)
003 – Health and Well-being (Adults)
004 – Health and well-being (children and young people)
005 – Professional practice as a health and social care worker
006 – Safeguarding individuals
007 – Health and Safety in health and social care.
The mandatory units for the (Adults) and (Children and Young People) routes are assessed through:
- three externally-set, internal scenario-based assessments; and
- one externally-set, externally-marked multiple choice test
The mandatory units for the (Adults and Children and Young People) route is assessed through:
- four externally-set, internal scenario-based assessments; and
- one externally-set, externally-marked multiple choice test
To achieve the Level 2 Health and Social Care: Practice (Adults) qualification learners must achieve a minimum of 35 credits in total:
- 14 credits must be achieved from the Mandatory group.
- A minimum of 14 credits must be achieved from Optional group A.
- The balance of 7 credits can be achieved from units in Optional groups A or B.
- A maximum of 14 credits from Optional group A and B may be achieved from units at level 3
The mandatory units are as follows:
- 230 – Supporting core practice in Health and Social Care (Adults)
*Please note learners must complete the Level 2 in Health and Social Care: Core qualification prior to or alongside this qualification.
Optional Units
Optional units will be discussed with learners and selection based on specific job roles.

- City & Guilds Level 2 in Health and Social Care: Core
- Pearson Essential Skills Wales Application of Number Level 2
- Pearson Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 2
What are the benefits of this qualification?
Learners who achieve the Level 2 in Health and Social Care: Practice (Adults), will have also achieved the Level 2 in Health and Social Care: Core. This means they will be a recognised level 2 practitioner.
Qualification Time
Completion of this qualification is a maximum of 16 months.
